Lyons condemns arson attack on St Brigid’s Clubrooms site

In News by Donal Lyons

SDLP Balmoral Councillor Donal Lyons has condemned those behind an arson attack on construction equipment at the site of the St Brigid’s GAC Clubroom build in Musgrave Park last night.

Cllr Lyons said:

“I was shocked to hear about the appalling arson attack on construction equipment at the site of St Brigid’s new clubrooms in Musgrave Park. St Brigid’s is a pillar of the local community and their new clubrooms will be an excellent facility, enhancing their activities throughout the area.

“I’ve spoken to club members this morning and they’re understandably upset at the incident. Local police believe the incident may be linked to anti-social behaviour rather than any more sinister motive at this stage but I’ll be meeting with them in the time ahead for solid assurances on this matter. I’ll also be seeking a meeting with the head of the Neighbourhood Policing Team here to ensure that local police patrols are stepped up to deal with anti-social behaviour in the park which is a constant nuisance for local people and park users.

“I would urge anyone with any information about this attack to contact the police.”
