As a father of three young girls I place a huge importance on their education and when I recently received a letter home from their Principal saying that their school was in financial trouble, I was both worried and alarmed.
Children only have one childhood and we cannot allow political foot dragging to put our children’s educational development at risk. Every delay and every cut impacts on our children’s opportunity to learn, grow and have a happy, healthy childhood. The failure of Sinn Fein and the DUP to form an Executive however means that in these past few weeks we have already seen a number of support programmes abolished, and teachers and specialists are warning that more will disappear. I believe that when those who set the budgets ignore the experts who are warning that our schools system is in crisis, it is time to speak up.
