Boundary Commission proposals were published in September and would have a particularly significant impact on this constituency. The majority of Balmoral is due to be absorbed into West Belfast while residents of Edenderry, Belvoir and the Hamptons will find themselves in East Belfast. The boundaries would apply to the Assembly too, which is being reduced to 5 seats per constituency. The SDLP is submitting a full response to the proposals and will highlight the loss of the shared nature of South Belfast, the standing of Belfast as a regional driver if reduced to 3 seats, as well as the increased scrutiny needed if additional powers are devolved from Brussels in the event of Brexit.
